Cognitive/Psychological Job Demands Analysis (CP-JDA)

Purpose: In parallel to a physical job demands analysis, this service assesses the characteristics of the workplace relative to the cognitive and psychological demands of a given occupation. It can be performed separate from, or in conjunction with, a physical job demands analysis. The CP-JDA is particularly relevant when the occupational requirements / essential job demands are substantially cognitive in orientation. Hence, it is relevant to the following example occupational areas among many others: professional, executive, managerial, administrative, technical, trades, consulting / advising, teaching, business / financial services, health services, editing / writing, inventory, quality monitoring / control. The domains covered include:

Ψ General educational development

Ψ Occupational aptitudes

Ψ Sustained concentration and persistence

Ψ Memory

Ψ Higher level cognitive abilities

Ψ Social interaction

Ψ Work traits

As examples, the CP-JDA is particularly relevant for the following types of disability / illness related concerns which may impact any of the above work domains: psychological impairment, brain impairment, stress claims, chronic pain, Fibromyalgia / Chronic Fatigue claims, etc. This service is applicable to any condition—physical, emotional or cognitive—which is felt to have a potentially significant impact on the individual’s thinking, cognitive and/or interpersonal processes and abilities.

Features: A partial to full day combination of interview and observation of the worksite, in accordance with the analysis techniques and methodology as per The Revised Handbook for Analyzing Jobs.

Benefits: Objective measurement of the cognitive and psychological demands of a job. Provides a baseline measurement tool against which an individual’s cognitive and psychological capacities may be compared for disability benefit determination and return to work planning. May be directly compared to client performance measurement in the context of a Cognitive/Psychological Functional Ability Evaluation (CP-FAE), or Multi-day Situational Work Assessment/Comprehensive Employability Assessment.

Recommended Referral Time: As part of a comprehensive proactive job demands analysis strategy; or, on a one-of basis to consider an individual’s disability status.
