Dr. Pushpa Kanagaratnam, PhD, C.Psych

Dr. Pushpa Kanagaratnam completed her professional degree in psychology at the University of Bergen and had practiced as a psychologist in Norway since 1996. She completed her doctoral degree in psychology in 2004, specializing in the area of cognitive and psychological correlates of war trauma in immigrants and refugees. Dr. Kanagaratnam is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario and a member of the Ontario Psychological Association (OPA). She is also a member of the OPA Diversity Task Force.

Dr. Kanagaratnam has many years of clinical experience, working at the Department of Psychiatry, Haukeland University Hospital and at the Outpatient Clinic at the Department of Clinical Psychology, at the University of Bergen, Norway. She has experience working with diverse ethno cultural groups, and has published peer-reviewed articles and done numerous presentations on the topic of war-related trauma and intimate partner violence. She has now expanded her areas of interest within the Trauma field, and conducts assessments and provides treatment to adults who are psychologically affected following motor vehicle and workplace accidents. Dr. Kanagaratnam worked as an international research fellow at University of Toronto and at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. She has also worked for the last three years on a CIDA (Canadian International Development Agency) funded international project in Sri Lanka with the focus of mental health capacity building in this war torn country. Dr. Kanagaratnam is fluent in Tamil, English and Norwegian.
